Funky Fries

by Ore-Ida
2002 – 2003 GONE FOREVER

Yes — Funky Fries was discontinued in 2003 after one year on shelves, and it has not come back.

Heinz looked at the freezer aisle in 2002 and decided American children were ready for chocolate french fries — plus cinnamon ones, blue ones, sour cream ones, and ring-shaped ones, all in a purple bag. Barely a year later the whole experiment was pulled off shelves, having answered a question nobody had asked.

🧾 One more thingFunky Fries were a direct sequel to Heinz's colored EZ Squirt ketchup, which was a genuine hit — over 25 million bottles in three years. Heinz asked kids what would make fries more fun, boiled roughly 50 ideas down to five, and pitched the result as the biggest thing to happen to fries since ketchup. The green ketchup outlived them by three years.
