Economic Crunch
by Ben & Jerry's
Gone — Ben & Jerry's own graveyard records the run as 1987 to 1987, one of the shortest it has ever buried. It has never returned; a flavor named for a market crash is a difficult sell in a good year.
Vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered almonds, pecans and walnuts, sold in 1987 and gone before the year was out. Its entire life fit inside the year of the crash it was named after.
🧾 One more thingBen & Jerry's headstone for it in the Vermont flavor graveyard ties the flavor directly to the stock market crash — the company answered Black Monday with a nut cluster and then let it go within months. The graveyard is a real hillside above the Waterbury factory, markers and rhyming epitaphs and all.
