Bonkers! was discontinued in 1997 — but it’s back on shelves today.

Chewy fruit squares with a soft outer shell and a tart jam center, sold on gleefully absurd ads where a giant piece of fruit flattened its victims flat. Nabisco stopped running the commercials, shoppers promptly forgot the candy existed, and by the late 1990s Bonkers had quietly vanished.

🧾 One more thingLeaf Brands spent more than five years reformulating Bonkers before relaunching them in 2018 — this time gelatin-free and fully vegan, a very 21st-century afterlife for an ’80s fruit chew.
