Famous Chocolate Wafers
by Nabisco
Gone — shelves had been thinning since 2022 and Mondelez never made an announcement; it confirmed the delisting piecemeal across 2023, from a February reply on Nabisco's own account to a July statement to NPR. A 2018 disappearance was a temporary quality withdrawal, so 2023 is the one that stuck.
A thin, crisp chocolate cookie that most buyers never ate straight from the box, because its real job was to be layered with whipped cream and left in the refrigerator overnight. Nabisco let it go in 2023, a year short of its centennial.
🧾 One more thingA 1929 Nabisco advertisement, reported years later by the Washington Post, told cooks to stack the wafers with whipped cream and chill them overnight, and by 1930 the recipe was printed on the package. The dessert outlived the cookie it was written to sell.
