U-No Bar

by Annabelle
1924 – 2024 GONE FOREVER

Gone, by omission. When Annabelle announced the Hayward closure in July 2024, it named four bars that would be made elsewhere: Big Hunk, Rocky Road, Look and Abba-Zaba. U-No was not one, and it has vanished from the company's site. 1924 is a trademark first-use claim; other accounts say 1920.

A Bay Area chocolate bar with a name like a punchline, made for a century, first by Cardinet Candy and then by Annabelle. It outlasted dozens of national brands, then quietly missed the last truck out of Hayward.

🧾 One more thingAnnabelle was founded in 1950 by Russian immigrant Sam Altshuler, who named the company after his daughter. It bought Cardinet, and the U-No with it, in 1978. The Hayward plant that made the bar was 74 years old when it closed.
