AISLE 5 · FROZEN & DAIRY
Schwan's Home Delivery
by Yelloh
Gone — the wind-down was announced in September 2024, roughly 1,100 people lost their jobs, and the website is now a parked domain. Schwan's Company, the separate manufacturer sold to CJ in 2019, is still very much alive: Red Baron, Tony's and Freschetta are its, and they never left the freezer.
For seventy-two years a yellow truck came up the driveway carrying ice cream, pot pies and fried chicken — the freezer aisle making house calls in places that did not have much of one. The last route ran on November 8, 2024.
🧾 One more thingMarvin Schwan started it in 1952 with a load of ice cream for farms around Marshall, Minnesota. The rebrand to Yelloh in 2022 could not fix the underlying problem, which a board member summed up plainly: online grocery ordering had replaced the person at the door.
