Rainforest Crunch

by Ben & Jerry’s
1989 – 1999 GONE FOREVER

Yes — Rainforest Crunch was discontinued in 1999 after 10 years on shelves, and it has not come back.

Vanilla ice cream shot through with cashew and Brazil-nut brittle, sold on the promise that eating a pint helped save the Amazon. It ran a full decade and made real money before proving that good intentions are harder to source than nuts.

🧾 One more thingBen & Jerry’s called itself out in its own annual report: only about 5% of the nuts came from the indigenous shelling cooperatives the packaging celebrated, and the rest were bought from Brazilian agribusiness. Its headstone in the company’s Vermont flavor graveyard blames something else entirely — the brittle ‘got sticky in between our braces.’
