Quaker Puffed Rice

by Quaker Oats
1905 – 2019 GONE FOREVER

Gone — Quaker's catalog lists no puffed rice or puffed wheat, and the company has said nothing further since that reply. Rice cakes and other brands' puffed grain keep the shelf stocked, which is part of why the disappearance went largely unnoticed.

At the 1904 World's Fair a botanist loaded rice into eight bronze cannons and fired it into a wire cage two stories high. The grain reached grocery shelves as breakfast the next year and stayed there for over a century.

🧾 One more thingShoppers who went looking were told the same thing three years running: production delays. The confirmation, when it came, was a reply to a single customer on social media saying Puffed Rice and Puffed Wheat were both finished.
