1990 – 2014 RARE REVIVALS

Limited — the national run ended in early 2014, and Mighty Wings have surfaced since only as local tests, in Detroit in 2015 and at around 285 Atlanta-area stores in 2016. The 1990 debut was itself a select-market affair that faded by the early 2000s; nothing about the wings has ever stuck.

Bone-in, cayenne-breaded chicken wings from the company that built an empire on the boneless nugget. McDonald's tried them in 1990, tried them again nationally in 2013, and both times discovered that nobody goes to McDonald's for wings.

🧾 One more thingThe 2013 relaunch was so ambitious that McDonald's bought roughly 50 million pounds of wings; by December about 10 million pounds were still sitting in freezers, and the company slashed prices to move them while its CEO conceded the wings were "slightly spicy for some consumers."
