1982 – 1994 GONE FOREVER

Gone — Swanson discontinued Le Menu in 1994 while shifting its attention back to the traditional dinners. Canada held on until roughly 1998, but the brand has been absent from freezers in both countries for decades.

Swanson's attempt to make the frozen dinner respectable: restaurant-style meals plated on a round, undivided dish instead of a segmented foil tray, advertised with the suggestion that you open a bottle of wine to go with it. For about a decade, people actually did.

🧾 One more thingThe round plate was the entire pitch — no compartments, nothing to admit the food had come out of a freezer. It worked well enough that Campbell's was listing Le Menu among its most successful newer products by 1985, before the line was retired in the US in 1994. Canadian shelves kept it alive for several years after that.
