1908 – 1999 IT CAME BACK

Back — the timeline is a mess: Keebler swapped Hydrox for Droxies in 1999, Kellogg's dropped those in 2003, and a 100th-anniversary reissue in 2008 lasted under a year. Leaf Brands revived Hydrox properly in September 2015 and still makes it, sold mostly online and on scattered grocery shelves.

The chocolate sandwich cookie that got there first — four years ahead of Oreo — and then spent the next century being mistaken for the imitation. Keebler finally replaced it in 1999 with a reformulated cookie called Droxies, a name that inspired precisely no loyalty.

🧾 One more thingHydrox arrived in 1908 and Oreo followed in 1912, so the cookie most Americans file as the knockoff is in fact the original. The name was drawn from hydrogen and oxygen to suggest purity, and then spent decades aging into something that sounds like bathroom cleaner — which did the brand no favors at all.
