Halloween Whopper

by Burger King
2015 – 2015 GONE FOREVER

Gone — it has never come back, though Burger King kept the colored-bun habit going: a green-bunned Nightmare King in 2018, a white Ghost Whopper in 2019, an orange Ghost Pepper Whopper in 2022. Burger King Japan got to black buns first, in 2014, using squid ink and bamboo charcoal.

A Whopper in a jet-black bun, $4.99, sold from September 28 to Halloween 2015 and advertised as baked with A.1. The sauce was real; the color was food dye, and the internet worked that out within days.

🧾 One more thingCustomers reported bright green stool, #greenpoop trended, and a New York gastroenterologist ended up on the record explaining that unabsorbed blue dye meeting bile is harmless. That became the burger's entire legacy.
