Colonel's Rotisserie Gold
by KFC
Gone — KFC reworked the idea as Tender Roast in 1996, and that faded too by about 2000. The 1993 launch is on the record in the newspapers; nothing dates the ending precisely, and 1995 is the year every account settles on.
KFC without the fryer: whole birds turning on spits, aimed straight at Boston Market and the early-90s hope that families would buy dinner rather than cook it. For a moment it was the busiest thing in the building.
🧾 One more thingPress at the time put the roast chicken at around $2 million a day, close to a fifth of KFC's sales — and then the roasters kept breaking down. Holding whole chickens at temperature turned out to be a different trade from dropping them in oil.
