1929 – 2010 GONE FOREVER

Gone from the dairy aisle — General Mills ended retail shipments in February 2010 and the cups never came back. The name survives in a narrower life: Colombo-branded soft-serve frozen yogurt mix is still supplied to shops and foodservice kitchens, so the brand outlived its own grocery presence.

America's first commercial yogurt, made in Massachusetts to Armenian family recipes decades before the country decided yogurt was breakfast. It spent eighty years teaching Americans to eat the stuff and then lost the shelf to the brand that learned from it.

🧾 One more thingThe Colombosian family began making it in Andover, Massachusetts in 1929, when yogurt in America was essentially an immigrant food with no mainstream market at all. General Mills bought the brand in 1993 and announced in January 2010 that it was dropping Colombo to concentrate on Yoplait; the final cups shipped that February.
