1981 – 2009 IT CAME BACK

Chipwich was discontinued in 2009 — but it’s back on shelves today.

Vanilla ice cream cemented between two chocolate-chip cookies and rolled in extra chips for good measure — invented by a New York lawyer who launched it from Manhattan street carts in 1981. Nestlé retired the original around 2009, reportedly because it kept outselling the company’s own Toll House sandwich.

🧾 One more thingOpening day on the streets of New York moved roughly 25,000 Chipwiches; two weeks later, vendors were selling 40,000 a day. New owners revived the brand in 2018, and it’s back in freezer cases today.
