2004 – 2013 GONE FOREVER

Gone in the US. Some accounts date test runs to 2002, but the national rollout was August 2004, and they left the menu in 2013. A brief 2015 return ended that spring. The McCrispy Strips launched in 2025 are a new recipe, not a return.

McDonald's grown-up chicken: whole strips of breast meat rather than nuggets, priced like they meant it. They went national in 2004, left the menu in 2013, and have been asked about at the drive-thru ever since.

🧾 One more thingThe 2004 rollout came with Olympic tie-ins featuring Serena Williams and Mia Hamm. When the strips came back for a few weeks in 2015, McDonald's said it had no plans to make them permanent, and it didn't.
