AISLE 3 · CEREAL
Buc Wheats
by General Mills
Gone — Buc Wheats disappeared around 1983, though sources place it anywhere between 1982 and 1984 and none give an exact date. General Mills has never brought it back, maple glaze or otherwise.
Toasted wheat flakes finished with a hard maple glaze, launched in 1971 and adored by a small, loyal and extremely vocal population. General Mills eventually swapped the maple for honey, which turned out to be the whole ballgame.
🧾 One more thingThat reformulation is why the cereal is remembered as a tragedy rather than a routine discontinuation — sales fell after the maple glaze was replaced with a honey one, and the product was gone within a few years. It remains one of the aisle's clearest cases of a cereal killed by its own recipe change.
