AISLE 5 · FROZEN & DAIRY
Schweddy Balls
by Ben & Jerry's
Gone — Ben & Jerry's own graveyard records it as a 2011 holiday-season limited batch, and it has never come back. The company does take public requests to resurrect buried flavors, so a revival would be loud news; so far there has been none.
Vanilla ice cream spiked with rum and loaded with fudge-covered malt balls, named after a Saturday Night Live sketch that had been getting away with the joke since 1998. Ben & Jerry's got away with it for exactly one holiday season.
🧾 One more thingA conservative group called One Million Moms organized a boycott over the name, and Ben & Jerry's countered that it was their most popular limited edition ever — while conceding it reached only about 30% of the retailers that stock the brand. Its headstone in the company's Vermont flavor graveyard admits the pints disappeared before anyone there was ready to let them go.
